When and where is the next SRTS National Conference?

The Safe Routes to School (SRTS) National Conference is held every other year and is co-sponsored by the National Center for Safe Routes to School (the National Center) and the Safe Routes to School National Partnership. The SRTS National Conference alternates with a related conference called the Pro Walk/Pro Bike conference, which is sponsored by the National Center for Bicycling and Walking. The National Center has learned that the U.S. Congress recently extended transportation funding for current transportation programs like SRTS until March 31, 2012. Bearing in mind that the SRTS National Conference occurs every other year, and that the most recent conference was held in August 2011, means that theoretically, the next SRTS National Conference would occur in 2013. However, beyond March 2012, the future of the SRTS program remains uncertain. We will begin planning another National Conference if one (of both) of two things happens: (1) first, if Congress passes an extension of the existing transportation bill (i.e., SAFETEA_LU) that extends several months beyond August 2013; and/or (2) Congress passes a new transportation bill that includes several years of funding for the federal SRTS program. That said, because the fate of the federal SRTS program remains uncertain beyond March 2012, the location of any future SRTS National Conference is not yet known.
