Walk to School: Public Service Announcements

Public service announcements are a cost-effective method to partner with your local media to promote your Walk to School event. To use these radio PSAs, follow these easy steps:

  1. Download the PSA script Word or RTF file below. It contains several different scripts to choose from.
  2. Pick the PSA(s) that suit your program and community.
  3. Fill in the bracketed areas with your local information.
  4. Call local radio stations, and ask to speak with someone in the public affairs department or the news department.
  5. Request an on-air reading of the PSA(s).
  6. Supply them with the following script as a guideline for featuring your Walk to School event. Be sure to specify in your announcement whether your event is a one-day event (International Walk to School Day) or a month-long event (International Walk to School Month).
  7. You could also suggest the station feature a link on their web site to www.walkbiketoschool.org.
  8. Another option is to recruit an on-air personality to promote your event during usual morning commute times.
