How do I register?
- You have to become a member of the Safe Routes Forums in order to post. To register, fill out the Register form with your email address and chosen username and password. Be sure to fill out the form completely. Once you’ve submitted the forum, you will receive an email confirmation from forums@saferoutesinfo.org asking you to click a link to confirm your account. Once you’ve confirmed your email, your registration will be complete and you can start posting.
How do I join in?
- Please review our Forum Guidelines before you start posting. Once you've registered an account, you can post at any time. First choose a forum from the list on the main page in which to read or post messages. You can post a response on someone's topic, or start one of your own by clicking on the “New Topic” button at the top of each forum page.
How do I start a new thread?
- To start a new thread on a bulletin board, click on the blue “New Topic” button at the top of the board's list of threads.
How do I add formatting to my messages?

You can add tags around the text you want to format using BBML syntax. See the formatting help page for full details, but here are the basic functions:

How do I create links in my messages?
You can create links using BBML syntax, described fully at our formatting help page. Some examples are below:

- To receive e-mail alerts for a particular forum, first click on the forum you're interested in. At the top of the list of threads, click on the blue “Subscribe” button. Once you click, you will be taken to your profile page which will confirm your subscription to receive email updates (at the bottom of the page).
How do I set up email alerts on threads that I’m interested in?
When you start a new thread or post a reply to an existing thread, you have the option to subscribe to receive email updates every time a new message is added to that thread. Click the checkbox next to “Send me an email when a reply is posted” that is located below the text box where you typed your message, then click Submit to post the message and begin receiving email updates.
You can also subscribe to threads that you haven’t posted in. Click on the thread name, then click on the blue “Subscribe” button at the top of the list of messages. Once you click, you will be taken to your profile page to confirm your subscription.
How do I turn off email alerts on a forum or thread?
- To turn off one or more alerts, go to Your Profile. If you are not already logged in, you will need to do so before accessing your profile. Towards the bottom of the page will be a list of the forums and/or threads you are subscribed to receive alerts on. Click “unsubscribe” next to the forum or thread you would like to unsubscribe from.
How do I report a violation of Safe Routes Forums Guidelines?
- At the bottom of every post there is a link “Report Inappropriate Post.” If you see a message that contains a violation of the guidelines, click on the link. This will generate a message to the forum administrator.
What if I have an idea for a new forum?
- Please share your ideas with us in the Feedback and Comments forum.
Can I search the forums?
- You can search the forums using our search form to find specific words in the titles and body of messages. You can choose to look for a specific phrase (such as “walking to school”), a combination of words (threads containing both the word “walking” and the word “school”), or separate words (threads containing either the word “walking” or the word “school”). Enter your search terms, then choose how you want to match the words using the drop down menu.
How do I close my forums account?
- To close your account, please email forums@saferoutesinfo.org from the email account your forums account is registered under. Please include “Close account” in the subject line of the email and include your username within the text of the email.
