It's time to register for Walk to School Day 2009, to be held this year on October 7. Last year reached a new record for participation with more than 2,800 registered events and many more weren't registered. The timing is right for 2009 to beat last year's record. Communities are conducting SRTS programs and connecting with many reasons for walking and bicycling, whether it's concern about climate change, physical activity, safety or all the ways these activities can strengthen communities.
Help make this year another record year. As of August 4, events in 43 states have already registered on the Walk to School web site. Of those, approximately 63 percent are experienced — they've celebrated at least once in previous years. Safe Routes to School programs are well represented, making up nearly 60 percent of registered events thus far. Make your event count and get access to downloadable promotional materials by registering for Walk to School Day.
