Research News: New Study Analyzes Effective SRTS Management

What’s the secret of success for an SRTS program? Of course, there isn’t just one secret – many things can affect SRTS program implementation – but the National Center has identified four elements that can contribute to a program’s success:

  • An in-school leader
  • Activities that reinforce walking and bicycling
  • Parent support
  • School policies that support SRTS

The study, Shifting Modes: A Comparative Analysis of SRTS Program Elements and Travel Mode Outcomes, was based on the SRTS evaluation data of six schools over a period of three years. The full report, as well as its two-page guide for SRTS implementors and practitioners,  Getting More Students to Walk and Bicycle: Four Elements of Successful Programs, are now available for download.
